Going Beyond the Missionary Mindset$30.002-hour webinar
Communities facing poverty and violence face a challenging future as global disparities increase. As acupuncture providers working in humanitarian aid, how do we move beyond the conventional “missionary” and “medical tourism” models when working with vulnerable and underserved groups in these contexts? How can we make our work more than just a hit and run operation?
This webinar will take you inside the Barefoot Acupuncture Movement’s experience, from acupuncture-based community development projects in Latin America and Africa. |
About this Webinar
We will share how the Barefoot Acupuncture Movement walks with underserved groups to understand their needs, the local context, their local health traditions and systems. We will discuss how to identify social strengths, build on local capacities, and to support their initiatives to take control of healthcare for their own people in a culturally competent way.
Drawing from real-life case examples, we will explore the barriers and solutions to making acupuncture something that supports resilience for an entire community. You will learn basic principles and best practices for developing long -term partnerships with underserved groups.
This course is a primer for anyone wanting to get involved with the Barefoot Acupuncture Movement. This course is also designed to help you build confidence as an acupuncture or acudetox teacher around the world. This is also an introductory training for NADA and acupuncturist providers wanting to expand their skill-sets around cultural competency and how to do humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and international community development work.
