The Barefoot Acupuncture Movement exists because of the dedicated efforts of hundreds of volunteers since we started in 2011. Our Barefoot Schools can offer free scholarships for the majority of students because of volunteer acupuncture educators. Refugees in the border region receive free acupuncture because of the work of volunteer providers and student interns.
``My passion is working for social and environmental justice in underserved communities. The Barefoot Acupuncture Movement provides me with an opportunity to connect with and serve communities in need in a way that helps people empower themselves and create strong healthy communities.``
The Barefoot Acupuncture Movement has offered service- learning opportunities for students and interns for dozens of groups over the past ten years. Through our Solidarity Immersion Programs in Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua, volunteers have the opportunity to build bridges across borders.

“The projects our students have created show us that even the most marginalized and underserved communities can use acupuncture to build resilience and self-sufficiency in response to violence, poverty, and injustice. It’s about partnership with people. It’s about accompaniment as they take control of their healthcare.”
